Women’s basketball has experienced unprecedented success over the past few seasons and this is an excellent time to be a fan.

Benita Harrison-Diggs traveled from Virginia Beach to Chicago this weekend in anticipation of this year’s WNBA All-Star game, eager to honor her favorite players at this year’s edition. While she had attended previous All-Star events before this one, this one stood out. “This has been my best All-Star event yet,” said Benita. “Everyone was so warm and friendly here.”

On Friday, All-Star weekend kicked off with the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest, followed by Sunday’s All-Star Game hosted at Wintrust Arena in Chicago by reigning champion Chicago Sky – New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu won both contests, while Allie Quigley set an all-time 3-Point Contest record by winning it four times!

WNBA All-Stars are determined through fan, player and media votes. For 2019, however, the league added a captain’s picks format, pairing Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson with Seattle Storm star Breanna Stewart on opposing teams; 8x All-Star Sylvia Fowles and 13x All-Star Sue Bird (retiring after this season) were appointed co-captains as co-leaders of their respective squads.

Both teams boast impressive talent. The All-Star Game kicks off at 1 pm ET and will be broadcast live by ABC.

The 2022 WNBA All-Stars will include two teams composed of the top 10 players in the league. Chicago and Las Vegas both boast three All-Star starters each (Plum, Wilson, Young), while Seattle and Minnesota each boast two (Stoller, Ogwumike).

At All-Star week, many players recognized Phoenix Mercury forward Brittney Griner. She earned first team All-Star honors this year but was unjustly arrested in Russia since February and faces up to 10 years of prison time. At halftime of the All-Star game, several players wore jerseys bearing her name and No. 42 to honor Brittney while others wore rings in tribute of both of her parents who attended.
