Weber State Cheer Nationals 2021

Weber State Cheer Nationals 2022

College cheer athletes spend much of their lives practicing, with national championships as the highlight of their year. Therefore, when Daytona Beach hosted the 2022 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer Nationals this past weekend it was truly monumental event.

Weber State Spirit Squad won its sixth consecutive grand national championship in Large Coed Division 1A competition, defeating larger schools such as Louisville, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Clemson to claim this accolade.

The Wildcats’ victory was particularly noteworthy given that it came only 18 days after the 2021 National Cheer Association College Nationals had been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Their Ogden-based squad had qualified for this year’s competition by placing first in their division at regionals; transitioning up a level proved challenging but did not stop their winning streak.

Even with only 48 hours to prepare a routine, the team was able to pull together an amazing routine that showcased both its remarkable skills and unparalleled athleticism. One highlight included an elite stunt sequence – never before seen at nationals – featuring basket tosses, pyramids, and tumbling combos; in addition, there was a soaring leap which earned one of the highest scores ever at this competition.

Wildcats made history once again when they won second overall in Coed Division 1B competitions – winning with an outstanding performance against Louisville, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Clemson teams! Not only did they earn top scores overall in Coed Division 1B, they swept both Partner Stunt categories – Elsa Hassett and Kollin Cockrell taking first and Katherine Abela and Michael Androsov earning third respectively!

While their performances wowed audiences across the country in Florida, other members of their squad were getting ready to return home and spend quality time with family and friends during spring break in Utah. Junior cheerleader Morgan Simianer expressed this sentiment in an Instagram post by saying she was eager to return and spend some time “with the family and friends”.

“This season has been incredible for our team and we can now celebrate what has been achieved together.
