Resica Elementary School and Michael Aguero, a 7-Year-Old With Down Syndrome

There is no shortage of bad press for Pennsylvania’s Resica Elementary School, as the school has ranked among the worst in the state in many areas. The school’s overall test scores aren’t exactly stellar, with its students averaging a lower than average 50% in math and reading proficiency. Despite this, the student population has remained relatively flat over the past five years, with the exception of a 6% drop in the number of minority pupils. That being said, the incident that caused the largest amount of buzz is an alleged school bus fall that left one boy with serious injuries.

A seven-year-old boy with Down syndrome suffered painful injuries while under the care of his guardian. Michael’s injuries include facial lacerations and a black eye. His mother says that the worst part was seeing her baby covered in blood. She wants the school to do more to make sure her son has a better future. But she isn’t alone in her quest to get the facts straight.

Her son was riding the bus to his elementary school when he fell off the vehicle. Elizabeth Aguero was on her way to pick him up when she received a mysterious phone call from the school about the incident. After the phone call, she had to rush to the hospital to take her son to safety. However, when she arrived, she discovered that the school had done something more significant to prevent her from receiving the full story.

According to Elizabeth Aguero, the school’s administrators claim that they had to get a subpoena in order to obtain the video footage of the incident. This is a red flag, as the video is a crucial piece of evidence that could help the Aguero family establish a solid case of negligence on the part of school personnel. Luckily, her son is still alive, as doctors were able to repair his wounds. In addition to the aforementioned medical emergency, she is also urging school officials to do more to ensure the health and safety of children with special needs.

Not surprisingly, her family is putting their money where their mouth is, and is pursuing the school for its failure to release the video of the incident. They have also taken their case to social media, posting the video and its accompanying description to garner support from concerned parents and well-wishers. Their Facebook page has been flooded with comments and shares from the public. As a result, they have also created a website, called the Down Syndrome Awareness Foundation, to promote awareness and education about the condition.

Although their efforts to secure the footage have been unsuccessful, Michael’s mother is convinced the school is covering its tracks, and she is ready to take her son to court if necessary. In addition to the video, she has made a motion that the school’s principal, Gail Kulick, be suspended. She is also calling for increased training of the school’s staff to properly handle children with special needs.
