Virginia Beach offers visitors and locals alike an abundance of vacation-worthy activities. From walking the oceanfront boardwalk, taking an evening kayak tour, and shopping at one of Virginia Beach’s malls – Virginia Beach boasts plenty of sights and activities. Situated at the easternmost side of Virginia, Virginia Beach also plays host to several military bases and historic sites that add depth and character to its vibrant coastal community.
No better way to cap off an action-packed beach day than with an end-of-day stroll along the shore at sunset. A beach sunset walk offers one of the best ways to catch the last light of day over the Atlantic Ocean, and walking along a pier provides an unrivalled perspective from above. Additionally, this option makes for an excellent family outing closer to shore than the more crowded resort areas.
Sandbridge Beach, 15 miles south of the resort area and featuring quieter swaths of sand dunes and sea grass, is another favorite sunset spot. Surfers, swimmers, families and wildlife enthusiasts who prefer quieter beach experiences with less traffic are drawn here; additionally it is close to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge where they can spot sea turtles as well as False Cape State Park (an excellent place for kayaking) which makes this 5-mile stretch even more desirable.
First Landing State Park on Cape Henry offers something for everyone with its 2,888 acres. In addition to beaches, First Landing features salt marsh, maritime forest, freshwater wetlands, sand dunes and bay shorelines that invite hiking, biking, boating, swimming and fishing activities as well as picnicking or overnight stays at one of its campsites or cabins.
