Maria Castillo, 17, Was Killed in a Car Accident in Michigan

A shocking accident resulted in the death of a 17-year-old soccer player in a car accident in Michigan. Maria Castillo was not wearing a seat belt when her car hit a light pole. The wrecker service rolled her car over and crushed her to the ground. The wrecker driver was not a resident of the United States. Although it is not yet clear what caused the crash, the speed is suspect.

The accident happened on the afternoon of May 15, 2014, near the Red Arrow Trail and North Avenue in Los Angeles, California. According to an autopsy report, the 2-year-old suffered blunt force trauma to his head in a motor vehicle accident. The accident happened just after Castillo and his mother moved into their apartment, and police said they had just recently moved in.

A 30-year-old man, who had been involved in a domestic incident with the woman who died, was arrested and booked into jail after deliberately hitting the two victims in the crash. The 30-year-old male was booked into jail on first-degree intentional murder and attempted first-degree murder. The accident occurred in a parking lot close to Belmar Apartments. Castillo-Castillo struck the woman who was driving a Fitchburg man aged 30 years old.

Mayra Castillo-Castillo was a top student at Dickinson High School

Her classmate and friend, Maria Dickinson, was a junior at Dickinson High School. She was president of her class and a member the National Honor Society, a soccer player, and a student mentor in Dickinson High School’s PALS program. Her sister, Mayra Castillo, was also a senior. Maria was also a front desk clerk in a nearby hotel. Her 18th birthday was just around the corner, and she had planned to volunteer at the Houston Super Feast event. Those who knew her said she was a shining example of a hard worker and a dedicated student.

Athletes who excelled in the classroom and athletics at Dickinson include Lizbeth SanMartin, Kara Cash, C. VanSlambrouck, Mariel Parra, and Deisy Fernandez. Mayra Castillo–Castillo was a classmate of Kristina Paham, Karina Vala, and C. VanSlambrouck.

Marvin Lionel Garcia was not a resident of the United States.

Although the identity of the truck driver remains unknown, the school district has appointed an additional grief counselor and crisis recovery team in order to support the family’s healing process. Garcia, a Mexican national, was not a United States resident when Maria Castillo was killed in a car accident in Michigan. Garcia, a 19-year-old Mexican national, was the third passenger in Garcia’s truck. The truck driver, a Michigan resident aged 20, remains in hospital and faces felony charges for leaving the scene without rendering assistance.

The crash appears to have been caused by speed
