A Man Found Dead in Newark, N.J. Today

Today in Newark, N.J., a man was found dead and his family is grieving.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, he had been shot and killed near a park in Newark; authorities are currently investigating this homicide – the eighth this year for the county.

On Sunday afternoon, those who knew the family that was murdered in Linden came by to light candles and place balloons outside their home. Neighbors reported to CBS2 that the couple lived quietly and with compassion.

On Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, a father fatally shot his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself, police sources tell CBS2. The family lived at 18 Chatham Place.

CBS2 arrived at the scene to find neighbors had decorated their driveway and porch with candles and Valentine’s Day balloons. A Ford pickup truck had also been parked in the driveway.

Police are seeking assistance in identifying the individual responsible for killing their family. Furthermore, they urge anyone with information about this case to contact the Newark Police Department.

Today, Jan. 1, 2021, The Newark Police Department is reviewing surveillance video from Carl Dorsey’s shooting death on January 1. He was unarmed and presented no threat to officers; footage was taken from a surveillance camera that caught Dorsey crossing South 11th Street in front of Detective Rod Simpkins who then shot him.

Last month, a grand jury declined to indict Simpkins on charges of murder and assault. He had previously been charged with aggravated assault in relation to the same incident.

Madinah Person, who lost her brother to the shooting, is still struggling to come to terms with his loss. On Monday she told reporters that when she heard the grand jury’s decision not to bring charges against Simpkins, it felt like her brother had died again.

On the 200 block of Avon Avenue in Newark on Monday evening, a 24-year-old man was discovered deceased. According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m. The victim lived in Newark and their investigation is continuing.
