Jo Koy was born and raised in rural Nebraska by his single mother. As their sole source of income was farming, he was unable to attend college. While working on his farm he would take breaks with stand-up comedy as an outlet and soon gained notoriety for its high energy and entertaining storytelling style.
Koy’s act often deals with his difficult upbringing, injecting humor into life’s most trying moments and garnering him an impressive fan base that includes many members of his own family. Koy has earned several accolades over time including winning the prestigious Stand-Up Comedian of the Year award at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival in 2018.
