Who Was Jose Mariano Hernandez?
The Spanish empire was a veritable goldmine of human creativity and innovation. From the earliest settlers to the last (and most) they all left their mark in myriad forms. Some were a bit more esoteric than others. But all were worthy of study. Among them was Jose Mariano Hernandez, one of the most notable among the group. He was a territorial delegate, one of the few notables whose ancestors were not Spaniards. His descendants would go on to become one of the most important clans in the modern world.
It’s a testament to his saga that even the most ardent of us would have a hard time summing up his achievements as a mere mortal. However, he still managed to find time to dabble in politics and to make the most of his many talents. For example, he was a shrewd politician at the very best of times, as well as a slick communicator and a good egg at the worst of times. On a personal note, he was also a feisty aficionado of wine. In the end, however, it wasn’t until his last years in office that the man found a happy medium and he’s been on the go ever since. And he’s been a staunch believer in the notion that the human spirit is the lifeline of a nation.
To cap it all off, he became a philanthropist, and financed the construction of the first modern Spanish museum in the country.
