Los Angeles Dodgers completed an amazing World Series run with a 3-1 win against Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday evening, becoming the first modern team to ever capture back-to-back world series titles and doing it so impressively. It marked their first title win outside New York since they relocated west from Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (B/Lo) in 1958 – two teams which long had an enmity, yet both won multiple world championships while located there.
The Dodgers are celebrating their fourth championship after defeating the Rays in six games and breaking a 32-year World Series drought. Series MVP Corey Seager said it had been his dream since childhood to reach this momentous momentous occasion. In addition, this victory marked an end of misery for Rays as they were eliminated in second round by Washington Nationals due to coronavirus pandemic which shorted their season considerably.
Even with such an unprecedented situation, fans showed up at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas to witness the game, with Los Angeles drawing more fans than Tampa. Fox Sports alone reported 12.6 million viewers for Los Angeles Dodgers series-clinching victory, including streaming numbers and viewership from other Fox properties; that was by far the best-watched game of this entire series; yet significantly lower than last year’s world series finale between Washington Nationals and Houston Astros which attracted 23 million.

The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have an enduring and heated rivalry that dates back to when both teams were based out of New York and competed against one another in World Series matches. The Dodgers won 21 out of 27 matches between 1913-1958 when based in Brooklyn and since moving to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the Giants won 20 of 27 World Series appearances during that same timeframe; never having faced off as championship matchups against each other, they will meet up once more next year for their 100th time during a championship series matchup that should prove highly entertaining and renew their rivalries once more.
