She was 76 years old and had long suffered from health issues, such as strokes, Covid 19 injections and urinary tract infections in recent years. Yet, she persevered despite these challenges – never giving up hope that something better might arise.
Whitney Thore, an avid follower of TLC, posted a heartbreaking tribute to her mother Barbara “Babs” Thore on social media. The body-positive activist called Barbara the family’s greatest gift and noted her hilarious sense of humor and beauty among other qualities. She described Babs for being known as an amazing source of comfort to everyone around her and care.

On My Big Fat Fabulous Life, the Thore family received a terrifying health scare in 2017 when their mom Babs suffered a stroke. Whitney focused her efforts towards keeping her mother as happy as possible throughout this episode of My Big Fat Fabulous Life.
As her medical issues worsened, the family struggled. Whitney went to visit her mother and was shocked by her condition; feeling helpless because of the struggles her mom was going through, Whitney installed a feeding tube so her mom would get adequate nutrition.
Doctors advised her that she must remain isolated until her health improved, and also informed her of tests conducted on other family members who tested positive for covid virus; thus requiring them to also remain isolated for some time.
Whitney was eventually the only one allowed to see her mother. While this was difficult for both of them, they managed to cope.
