Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey Hepburn
Breakfast at Tiffany’s stands out among movies for many reasons; one being Audrey Hepburn’s extraordinary performance as Holly Golightly. Even though Capote wrote the part for Marilyn Monroe (who would have made an excellent “backwoods girl”), Hepburn made this role her own and it has become her signature role.
Hepburn was known for her incredible wardrobe in this film and looked elegant and refined throughout it all, evidenced by her stunning wardrobe choices in this scene from her stunning wardrobe to her impeccable chic throughout the movie. From cotton dresses with embroidered flowers to ornate silky numbers she looked stunning throughout! Additionally she donned a white shirt featuring three statement buttons at its waist that she paired with casual jeans and black ballet slippers, plus added her playful hat and pair of oversized Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses as accent pieces to complete this outfit.
Holly meets Paul Varjak at Tiffany’s and attempts to convince him she’s not his ideal woman; however, he continues to pursue her and eventually gets her number from her reluctantly. Later she can be seen outside singing “Moon River”, with Hepburn being so captivating in this scene that any audience member is easily charmed.
As the film progresses, Hepburn’s style transforms from refined to more flirtatious and sexual appeal as she wears more strapless and figure hugging dresses with seductive undertones. Additionally, her hairstyle shifts from long flowing brunette locks to shorter and wavy blonde bobs.
Hepburn was known for her signature look of pearls with touches of gold, as well as her penchant for the classic black cigarette holder.
Hepburn is getting ready for her party at her apartment. She wears an amazing orange Givenchy coat with four button detailing from Givenchy. To complete her ensemble she pairs it with trademark Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses, kitten heels, pearl earrings and her signature black bag; additionally she’s still sporting her sexy cigarette holder from earlier scenes.
As the night progresses, Holly is approached by an inebriated admirer who knocks on her door, insisting she is the type of woman he seeks out despite her attempts at convincing him otherwise. After leaving behind a note telling her if they need any assistance she should contact him right away he leaves another note which instructs her to call him immediately should she need any support.
At the conclusion of the movie, Hepburn can be seen working at Unicef and giving speeches in English, French and Dutch about helping children worldwide. Her performance was mesmerizing – you cannot fail to be moved by her performances!
