A torture device used since ancient times, the rack was designed to make prisoners feel as if they were being slowly pulled apart. It would stretch until their shoulders dislocated and then drop them into hanging position – usually done for various reasons such as keeping them in prison or making them feel like they were being killed or punished. It could also be used to scare victims into telling their story or making them scream out in pain.
