Leila Cavett Update 2021
Leila Cavett and her son were reported missing in July of 2020. The 21-year-old woman was working in Atlanta when she vanished. It was not until a social media post about the disappearance went viral that the family learned that Leila Cavett had moved to Florida. They were devastated. This was not only the first time they had heard about her move, but they had no idea that she had left her child in the care of a foster parent.
As investigators tried to solve the mystery of the missing mother, the FBI joined the case. The agency found the white Chevrolet pickup truck that Cavett was driving. According to federal investigators, the vehicle was parked near the Walmart in Hollywood. In addition, the truck was not parked in a secure area. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Cavett and her 2-year-old son had not been accounted for for several days.
Federal authorities said they were concerned about the safety of Cavett and her son. A special agent in charge of the FBI’s Miami office sought public assistance. If anyone has information about the whereabouts of Cavett or her son, they are asked to contact the FBI’s Miami office at 800-CALL-FBI.
Investigators also believe that Cavett and her son may have been abducted. In addition, investigators believe that Ryan may have abused his son. He has been charged with kidnapping, child neglect, and tampering with evidence in the Leila Cavett case.
According to the charges, Ryan lied to police about his whereabouts. He also allegedly told investigators that he had seen Cavett and her son getting into a car with men. After making this statement, Ryan purchased a carpet odor eliminator and large trash bags. Several video surveillance tapes showed Ryan throwing away bloody towels and toys, as well as dragging a trash bag filled with trash bags from the truck.
At one point, a man in the parking lot behind the Walmart, who was reportedly looking for a coffee creamer, spotted Cavett and her son. They were standing alone in the parking lot. However, when they were approached by a coffee creamer shopper, they said they were going to call the police. While they did, they saw Ryan park three spots away from Cavett’s vehicle. Later, a woman who spotted Cavett and her son on the street outside the Miramar apartment complex said that she thought they were both gone.
After the incident, investigators found that Cavett and her son had traveled to Florida the day before she disappeared. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the pair had made numerous stops in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Vero Beach, and Hollywood. Additionally, Cavett had been missing for almost a month.
According to the FBI, they have yet to confirm the identity of the boy’s parents.
