A birthday cake sundae is the perfect way to mark any special occasion. Not only is it delicious and easy to make, but it adds some flair and color to your celebration.
You can use any cake recipe to make this delicious sundae, or experiment with different combinations until you find the ideal one for your tastes. The key to getting a flavorful treat is using quality ingredients – good butter, room-temperature eggs and milk, as well as pure vanilla extract – all come together in harmony.
To prepare the sundae, begin by preheating two springform pans and fill each with layers of different ice cream. Spread birthday cake ice cream on one pan, followed by bubble gum ice cream on the other. Finish by topping both off with napolitan ice cream and Oreos before freezing both pans for at least 2 hours.
Once both pans have been taken from the freezer, invert each ice cream layer onto the cake base, ice-cream side up. Cover with plastic wrap (wiggle into place if necessary) and return to freezer for at least 4-6 hours (ideally overnight) to set.
Once the cake has set, cover with a layer of frosting made with room-temperature butter and powdered sugar. Allow this to sit for several minutes before transferring onto a cake board or platter.
You can make this cake gluten-free or use dairy substitute to reduce fat and calories. Just be sure to follow the directions closely and not overmix the batter if you are making gluten-free.
