Trick-or-treating poses some potential safety hazards for children even with adult supervision, so it is wise to select a secure neighborhood and plan your route ahead of time. Look for low traffic areas with wide sidewalks and plenty of children around who you can join together in groups. Generally homes with their porch lights illuminated are participating in Halloween; those without porch lights on should be avoided as participants.
Each October, the San Antonio Zoo turns into Zoo Boo to offer an enjoyable Halloween event for families without being scary, with activities like hay maze and slide, dance parties, crafts pumpkin painting costume contests. Daytime admission is included; be mindful to avoid costumes which obstruct vision or include weapons such as swords and scepters as these will not be permitted at Zoo Boo.
San Antonio and surrounding areas don’t place restrictions on when trick-or-treaters can go out trick-or-treating; young children can begin as early as 4:30 or 5 p.m. for younger ones and 7 for those older kids. Furthermore, tradition dictates that houses with porch lights illuminated should be visited while those without them should be avoided.
Lone Star Flight Museum provides trick or treating on select weekends in October, as well as hosting its non-scary Halloween Spook-track-ula display that includes a large decorated site designed with younger children in mind. This year’s show includes Transylvania Express train rides and Ghost Train rides – plus, of course, festive decorations throughout the Museum for Halloween itself! Be sure to bring along a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes.
Experience trick or treating, live entertainment, a dance party, games and prizes during this free, family-friendly event on October 31 at the downtown Riverwalk in Philadelphia. Costumes of any sort are encouraged – prizes will be given out for best overall costume.
This event offers more than just trick or treating; there will also be food truck alley, a costume contest for dogs, and many other exciting attractions – all while raising funds for local animal rescue groups!
