Rehab Addict Sells Minnehaha House
Rehab addict and HGTV star Nicole Curtis isn’t just the host of her eponymous show. She’s also the woman behind several successful rehab projects in Minneapolis and Detroit. Among her many accomplishments is a high-profile court case against the city of Minneapolis. A lawsuit filed by the city against her claims she failed to pay $31,000 in fees for services she performed. But while the jury’s not in yet, Curtis’s lawyers have already won the day.
Probably the best known house that Curtis has rehabilitated is the Ransom Gillis house, located across the street from Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert. It was previously owned by the Alanson and Cornelia Fox family, lumber barons by the early 20th century. Despite the fact that the house has seen better days, it is a well-appointed two-story brick home with four bedrooms up and hardwood floors. It is one of a number of houses in the city that has recently been listed for sale. In February of 2021, the house was sold for $815,000. This is a hugely inflated price considering the fact that it was originally rehabilitated for just under $200,000 a few years ago.
Curtis has been in the business of rescuing old homes in Minneapolis for some time, even before her star turn on Rehab Addict. Her father Rod Curtis was a well-known local builder and her brother Ryan was a successful real estate investor. After being in the building business for some time, the family relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Since that time, Curtis has been an avid advocate for the preservation of historic buildings. The most recent project she has worked on is the Ransom Gillis house. Although the house is in disarray, the company has been awarded a $600,000 grant by the state of Minnesota to refurbish the property.
The Minnehaha House is a stately two-story brick home with four bedrooms up, hardwood floors and a handful of other amenities. It was featured on the Rehab Addict, a DIY Network show that showed off the latest in remodeling and renovation. During its short run, the show glitzed up the properties of numerous Minneapolis area home owners. As a result, Curtis spent tens of thousands of dollars on her restorations.
While the Minnehaha House might have been the most expensive piece of real estate that Nicole Curtis has purchased, the most expensive item she has sold is a dollar. However, that doesn’t mean that her latest fling, Dr. Jason Jenny, didn’t get the house.
Considering that the Minnehaha House has seen better days, it’s a big win for the city of Minneapolis and for Curtis, who has taken a small, but significant, role in saving the house. That is a feat that will probably stand out in the minds of Minneapolis residents for a long time to come.
One other notable fact is that Nicole Curtis is actually a Detroit native. Her parents, Joanie and Rod, are no longer with us.
