Regina King Co-Chairs This Year’s Met Gala

Actress, singer and fashion designer Regina King is a powerhouse in both worlds. She’s known for her grit and moral clarity in film, as well as her sense of style and fashion-forward silhouettes. She’s been acting for three decades and has won multiple awards. She’s also a co-chair for this year’s Met Gala, alongside Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Met Gala is the annual celebration of the best in fashion. Each year, it’s hosted by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Guests arrive in glamorous outfits and are then honored for their contributions to the arts.

During the event, stars and designers showcase their collections. This year’s gala will be centered on the theme ‘Gilded Glamour’ and will feature the work of American designers, as well as filmmakers.

Regina King is a star of both the silver screen and the red carpet, so we are eager to see her interpretation of this year’s theme. She has already shown off her impeccable style at previous Met Galas, but we can’t wait to see what she comes up with this time around.

Last year, she wore an elegant gold pinstripe gown and evening coat from the Michael Kors collection. The gold pinstripe embroidery glitters with nearly 110,000 crystals, and the look took our artisans over 500 hours to complete. Camila Cabello also wore a sequined double crepe sable strapless gown with an coordinating feather coat, while Kate Hudson opted for a petal-pink dress embroidered with 80,000 recycled sequins.

On the heels of her Academy Award win for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk, King is set to take on a new challenge. She is set to co-chair the 2022 Met Gala, alongside Blake Lively, Ryan Reynold, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

She also has plans to direct a movie for Netflix, based on a graphic novel from Image Comics called Bitter Root, about Harlem monster hunters. The upcoming movie is a big part of her plan for the next few years.

Her latest role is the lead actress in the Netflix miniseries Seven Seconds, where she plays Erika Murphy, the feisty wife of a crooked attorney (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.). The movie is set to be released in 2019.

As a mother, King has faced an incredibly difficult situation this year. She has been in mourning for her son, Ian Alexander Jr., who took his own life by suicide in January. In an interview with TODAY, King said she’s ‘devastated at the deepest level’ by her loss.

The Met Gala will be a somber experience for King, but she’s prepared to show off her best. She’s glamming up for this year’s theme ‘Gilded Glamour’ in her ’80s-inspired maxi blazer and tube dress, a Michael Kors design she wore at the Costume Institute benefit in Manhattan on September 13.

King has been a fan of Michael Kors since she was a teenager, a fact that’s no surprise given how her career has progressed. She has worn the label’s pieces for the past few years, including her Oscar-nominated turn in If Beale Street Could Talk and her performance as a police detective in the hit comedy Jerry Maguire.
