Daryl Hall – Music Legend

Daryl Hall is a music legend and one of the world’s most renowned artists. He is best known as the lead singer of Hall & Oates, but has also recorded solo albums and collaborated with countless renowned musicians. Additionally, Daryl has performed and toured across the globe with his bandmates.

Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to German ancestry parents, his passion for music began at an early age. As a teenager he played with Smokey Robinson and the Temptations before joining John Oates to form Hall & Oates with producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff in Philadelphia; since then he has released five solo albums.

He and Oates achieved legendary status during the 1970s, becoming one of popular music’s most successful duos with sales exceeding 50 million records. His hits included “Everytime You Go Away”, “Say It Ain’t So”, “She’s Gone” and “It’s Not Unusual”.

His work with Oates earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. With an illustrious career spanning four decades, he has made numerous media appearances both as an artist and host. Furthermore, he’s collaborated with numerous artists like Robert Fripp on Sacred Songs and Dusty Springfield on A Very Fine Love.

He has worked as a producer, songwriter and record executive for numerous years, working with some of music’s iconic artists such as George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan. Additionally, he served as lead singer of several bands such as Daryl Hall & the Deadbeats; heavy metal outfit The Scorpions; among many others.

He achieved fame as a doo-wop singer and songwriter in Philadelphia, drawing inspiration from Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Kenny Gamble, his mentor. Later moving to New York City, he collaborated with various local bands.

At the height of Hall & Oates’ success, they had their most popular song with “Everytime You Go Away”, which reached #1 in both the US and Canada. This popular tune has been covered by many other artists and remains in circulation today.

In 1980, he collaborated with guitarist Robert Fripp on the progressive rock album Sacred Songs and in 1986 released Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine which yielded the single “Dreamtime”. Since then, he has continued performing and touring as a singer/songwriter.

Millions have witnessed his live performances, alongside some of music’s biggest names like Johnny Rzeznik, Ben Folds, CeeLo Green, Smokey Robinson, KT Tunstall, Joe Walsh, Rob Thomas, Todd Rundgren and Darius Rucker.

He is also renowned for his free monthly web show called Live From Daryl’s House that he launched in 2007. On this program, musicians perform both their original works and classic performances from famous performers from the past. It has received widespread acclaim from publications like Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN and Yahoo!.
