Registration & Physicals – July 28 (with weights on Monday)

It’s that time of year again: football practice starts! Sign-ups, physicals and weigh-ins took place on July 28 at Riverbank Sports Complex.

For young athletes, the fall season offers them an opportunity to stay active, socialize with new people and have fun competing in a sport that emphasizes competition. But before they can don their new helmets and uniforms, they must complete physical conditioning exercises.

Physical training begins with calisthenics, but becomes more intense once players can move freely on the field. Additionally, this type of exercise helps acclimatize your body to a faster pace and boost stamina levels.

Even in temperatures of 90-plus degrees, physical conditioning is necessary to prepare players for full contact practices. They’ll have the chance to participate in various contact drills such as tackling, fumble recovery and kicking.

They’ll also develop respect for their opponents and the game of football, an essential aspect of youth development that will help them become lifelong athletes and citizens.

The Raiders youth football team is part of the Valley Oak League, which also includes teams from Ceres and Modesto. On their home opener against Vacaville Christian last Saturday, they earned a win and will host Ripon this week at Johansen High School.

Raiders’ quarterback Jasen Bracy, who is visually impaired, scored a touchdown on a running play against Galt this weekend. He’s been playing football since age 7 and his goal is to play college football; however, he must wait until he’s old enough to start.

The Modesto Raiders’ youth football team is proud to partner with a non-profit organization that offers scholarships and financial support to youth football and cheerleading participants. Through this partnership, youth can receive complimentary football and cheerleading equipment.
