Kobe Bryant recently passed away at 37, yet his impact will never be forgotten. As five-time NBA Champion, 18 All-Star selection and two Olympic Gold Medal winner; Bryant remains widely regarded as the greatest player of his era.

Kobe Bryant’s death in the helicopter crash that claimed Gianna and seven others is deeply upsetting, leaving behind an amazing legacy and impacting women’s basketball at all levels from youth league to WNBA.

Bryant was not only beloved in Philadelphia but was also an enthusiastic supporter of women’s basketball, helping establish Mamba Sports Academy in 2009. Additionally, he mentored Gianna during her WNBA career.

Tori Crawford was inspired to start competing at an early age after watching Bryant. “It was fantastic seeing him so involved with women’s basketball in all levels,” Crawford stated.

Nike will unveil a special edition shoe featuring Kobe Bryant’s Black Mamba silhouette on February 19 to honor 20 years with the Lakers.

According to a press release issued by Nike, their shoes will soon be on sale both at its stores and online for $160 and in both men’s and women’s sizes.

The sneaker features a black leather upper with white and red logos reminiscent of those Kobe wore while playing for Los Angeles Lakers during 1999-2000 season, along with Nike swoosh trademarked to NBA franchise.

Kobe and the Lakers have collaborated on sneaker designs before; for instance, an Air Jordan 7 ‘Lakers Away’ PE was launched back in 2002 as an iconic example.

Air Jordan 11 Low Concord was another classic sneaker introduced in 1996 and still popular today; featuring its classic gold and black combination and number 8 embossed on the medial collar.

Nike made sure the sneaker would remain memorable to fans by including a commemorative plaque reading “Kobe Bryant,” along with an image of him wearing his shoes, making this special edition even more so. Fans who remember Kobe’s career with the Lakers may especially cherish these shoes.

Some believe Kobe Bryant’s success on the basketball court can be traced to his “mamba mentality.” While his physical abilities were certainly impressive, his mind made him an icon.

Bryant established himself as an invaluable role model for young athletes with his “mamba mentality”. It became his goal to equip future basketball stars with similar techniques that made him so successful as an NBA star himself.
