Graham Elliot – Celebrity Chef and Baseball Card Collector
Graham Elliot is a celebrity chef, cookbook author, restaurateur, television personality, and baseball card collector. In his first television appearance, he appeared on “Master Chef” as one of three judges. He has been the judge on several shows, including “MasterChef,” “MasterChef Junior,” and “Family Food Fight.”
Elliot was born in Seattle, Washington, and graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Portland, Oregon. He started buying baseball cards in the late 1980s and began designing his own sets in the early 1990s. By the late 1990s, cards were being mass-produced and the value of the more rare cards had fallen. However, Elliot is still seeking some of the elusive cards of famous players, including Christy Mathewson and Mordecai “Threcai” Brown.
Elliot’s collection of baseball cards has grown considerably in the past two years. He has acquired a number of cards of players from the 1930s and 1940s, including Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle. The 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig, which is the most expensive card in his collection, sold for $576,000. His other most expensive cards are the 1948 Leaf Joe DiMaggio and the 1914 Fatima Grover Alexander rookie card.
During the summer of 2009, Elliot worked as a guest chef at the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Chicago. His nephew needed a heart transplant, and Elliot became involved with the foundation. After his nephew’s surgery, Elliot decided to support the organization by cooking for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Since then, Elliot has cooked for the Lollapalooza music festival and has been the Culinary Director for the festival. In addition to his work as a celebrity chef and restaurateur, Elliot has been a judge on several shows, including “MasterChef,” which he is currently judging.
Elliot is known as a baseball enthusiast, and he has always been interested in the hobby. Having a love of music, Elliot plays guitar and sings. A fan of vintage baseball cards, Elliot has also been known to collect and display his impressive collection on social media.
Elliot is a popular figure on the Chicago restaurant scene. His restaurant, Graham Elliot, received three stars from the Chicago Tribune. It was also awarded a two-star rating by the Michelin Guide in 2013. Other awards include being named Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine in 2004, a James Beard Award nomination, and being named Chef of the Year by the American Institute of Wine & Cuisine.
When Elliot is not on the road, he spends time chasing down elusive baseball cards. He has an Instagram account devoted to his collection. Although Elliot says he has not had his collection appraised, he acknowledges that it is insured. There are several sources from which he can buy these cards, including eBay. Elliot’s hobby has even led to him being named the MLB Culinary Correspondent.
When he isn’t at the kitchen, Elliot enjoys playing the guitar and singing. Elliot is married with three children and lives in Morgan Park, Illinois.
