Eddie Murphy – Starring in Shrek and Mulan

Eddie Murphy has had a number of successes over the last couple of years, starring in films like Shrek and Mulan. However, his comedy work remains his most well-known accomplishment; he began as a comic on Saturday Night Live and achieved worldwide fame during the ’80s.

At his peak, he was the go-to guy for black comedy and one of Hollywood’s most beloved comedians. His material often included provocative jokes with sexual overtones.

Murphy is renowned for being an outspoken black comedian who broke many of the established rules at his peak. As one of the pioneers in this field, Murphy helped redefine what black comics could achieve.

He is considered one of the greatest comedic actors in Hollywood and has starred in a variety of films, but his most renowned roles include 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop and Beverly Hills Cop ll, Coming to America and The Nutty Professor.

At his debut, he broke many of the boundaries established for black comedy and became one of Hollywood’s most outspoken personalities. Although often controversial, his sense of humor never wavered.

He is best known for his comedic performances, but he also has a successful singing and acting career. His two hit singles “Party All the Time” and “Put Your Mouth on Me” have become hit singles worldwide.

In the 1980s, he was one of the world’s most beloved actors. He made his name on Saturday Night Live and quickly gained notoriety as one of black comedically black’s iconic black stars. Additionally, he had an acclaimed stand-up comic persona as well as having a music video featuring Michael Jackson from early in his career.

In the ’90s, Murphy underwent a dramatic change. He no longer carried himself as an outlandish character actor and his iconic white actor status diminished. While some of his movies didn’t do particularly well – such as The Distinguished Gentleman and Vampire in Brooklyn – others proved popular enough for success.

He eventually began making films that more accurately reflected his age and experience. In Dolemite Is My Name, he played an aging comedian who helped him rediscover his range again. Additionally, he starred in Kenya Barris’ You People as a father-in-law who is deeply troubled by his daughter’s decision to marry a white man.

At 62 years old, he made You People as his first role since leaving Saturday Night Live. While it wasn’t his best performance ever, it was certainly entertaining and demonstrated that he can still have fun onscreen.

He may not be quite the same charismatic or funny man he once was, but he still makes for a good actor with plenty of talent. As one of the most influential comedic artists in history, his work has helped shape modern comedic comedy as we know it today.
