Donny Osmond has been a major force in music for nearly six decades, performing as singer-dancer-actor and triple threat television presenter. Additionally, he has earned numerous accolades throughout his career – including 33 gold records!
He was a member of the Osmonds, an American family singing group that became renowned in the 1970s as one of pop music’s teen idols. While performing with his brothers in the group, he earned several top ten hits and several platinum albums. Later he ventured out on his own and achieved further success with solo projects including “Puppy Love,” which reached number three in America.
At 48 years old, the former child star has never been convicted of any crimes. He is an internationally acclaimed singer and dancer with performances around the globe.
His biggest hit was the 1971 song “Go Away Little Girl”, which reached number 1 in the US. He has also written and starred in many musicals as well as lending his voice to characters like Shang from Disney’s Mulan and Jackaroo the pickup truck from Bob the Builder.
He has won two Emmys and been nominated for a Grammy Award, as well as appearing on numerous other television shows. Additionally, he hosted his own syndicated talk show and game show, Donny & Marie (1998) and Pyramid (2002-2004), respectively.
Donny Osmond was born in 1957 in Los Angeles, California to a professional basketball player father and home health aide mother. Growing up with four siblings – including twin sister Marie – in an extended family setting, Osmond developed an interest in music that eventually led him to be discovered by Walt Disney Studios. As a young child he sang with various choirs before being discovered by Disney Studios.
Osmond first achieved fame performing with his older brothers as The Osmonds, a teenage pop group that reached the top of the charts. Additionally, he appeared on numerous teen talent shows.
Despite his success, Osmond struggled to transition into adult identity and was even advised by a publicist to change his name. Nevertheless, Osmond refused this suggestion.
His career as a teenage idol took an exciting turn when he started performing as a solo artist in the early 1970s, and since then has become an accomplished singer and television host. He has earned multiple top ten hits as well as numerous awards, including two Emmys.
He has also participated in the popular reality television show Dancing with the Stars and was named runner-up on season one of The Masked Singer. Additionally, he frequently guests on various shows such as The Price Is Right and Good Morning America.
Donny Osmond has starred in a number of animated films, with his most renowned performance being Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In this role, Osmond donned a rainbow-colored cape and wore a wig. Additionally, his singing on The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water during its end credits is famed; here he sang “No One Has To Be Alone”.
