Denver’s Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (RHPS) has been a staple in Denver for many years. As one of the longest-running film releases, it has a cult following. Unlike other theater productions, RHPS has encouraged audience participation. Audiences have dressed up in costumes, acted out scenes, and even used props during performances. If you’re in the Denver area, check out the Rocky Horror Picture Show this weekend.
This musical satire of B-movies is based on the Rocky Horror movie. It uses visual and physical satire to poke fun at the genre. There are also simulated sexual violence and other forms of violence that audiences are invited to experience.
The story of the Rocky Horror picture show is one that has fascinated audiences for decades. Originally, the theater had been derelict for a number of years. In the early 1990s, it almost got bulldozed. But, locals still talk about the debauchery that once sparked at the Ogden Theater. Even today, older locals mention that they can still smell the stench of the glitzy theater from a mile away.
A troupe of renegade members of the Denver shadow cast called Colorado’s Elusive Ingredient (CEI) started performing this Rocky show every Saturday night at the Esquire Theatre. After several weeks of performance, the show built buzz and started to draw a crowd. They eventually found a home at the Crossroads Theater in downtown Denver. While there, they became an institution.
CEI took to the stage again in October 2006, relocating to the new Crossroads Theater in downtown Denver. While CEI did have a period of time without regular performances, the management managed to maintain a good relationship with the theater. Eventually, they found a new home at the Tiffany Plaza Mall in Denver. These performers regularly draw 80 to 110 regulars.
Rocky is a mascot for the show and he has blue eyes. He is a very muscular man with blond hair. At times, he wears a skimpy golden bikini over his crotch. He’s a great character to have around.
In addition to the Rocky, the Denver show will feature an interactive shadow cast performance. Members of the shadow cast will be under a tent in the Beacon Park. Before the show begins, attendees will receive a Rocky Horror goody bag. This includes a throw bag filled with classic Rocky items.
The Shadow Cast will perform from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the Rocky Horror Picture Show will be available on the Rocky Horror website. Ticket prices start at $28. You can also purchase tickets for other dates.
Colorado’s Elusive Ingredient has set a world record for the biggest Rocky showing. Previously, the group performed at Red Rocks Amphitheater. However, the group moved to the Buckingham Mall in Aurora in February 2001. Although the show isn’t as successful, it’s still an incredible experience.
For a limited time, you can catch a live shadow cast performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for free. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and you can expect a fast-paced show.
