Carnival took on Costa Venezia when they acquired it and sent it into dry dock for refurbishment; rather than stripping down its Italian theme, they amplified it. Now the ship, sailing year-round out of New York before moving to Port Canaveral in 2024, offers high-end Italian restaurant Il Viaggio as well as Italy-themed drinks at various bars – such as their newly established Amari bar dedicated to Italian liqueurs.

Teatro Rosso serves as a two-deck-high Italian opera house and hosts two musical shows each night by talented singers and dancers, including soprano Jennifer Simser in Rock Opera – an experience which blends big group vocals, synced dance moves, eye contact harmonies that only come from years of working together onstage – into one unforgettable performance.

Simser, with her extensive background ranging from Broadway to Canada’s Stratford Festival, shines at her best during rock-and-pop numbers like Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” But it is when she starts singing opera that her talent truly comes through – her powerful yet rich voice soaring into the rafters is truly impressive.

The Venezia is an impressively large ship, boasting multiple venues for large-scale entertainment – most notably Teatro Rosso and Limelight Lounge, which turns into a comedy club at night, offering both family-friendly and R-rated shows. Furthermore, Limelight hosts game shows such as its Carnival version of Family Feud as well as hosting occasional karaoke competitions.

But the top deck is where the ship truly shines, featuring a water park and ropes course that give a sensational ‘floating in the ocean air’ experience (while actually securely strapped in). Also available is SkyRide, an acrobatic attraction featuring guests walking gingerly along 14 decks worth of platforms and ropes which feel slightly terrifying but extremely enjoyable at once!
