When Tim Allen and Ted Allen are portrayed together on TV, many fans wonder if they are related. Though the two men share the same name, they have different backgrounds and skills. They are both talented and have received numerous awards.
While Tim Allen’s career took off after starring as Mike Baxter in ‘Last Man Standing,’ Ted Allen’s began in 2003, when he served as the food and wine expert for the popular Bravo series, ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.’ As a food critic, Allen has written for magazines such as GQ and Bon Appetit. In addition, he has published cookbooks. He also contributed to the food series for Esquire.
After graduation from Purdue University, he worked as a reporter for the Chicago-based newspaper, Lerner Newspapers. A few years later, Allen earned an MA in journalism from New York University. Soon after, Allen joined the staff at the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue. He also landed a job at the Lafayette Journal & Courier as a copy editor.
Allen started his professional writing career with a restaurant review team, called the ‘Famished Four.’ He wrote articles and essays on food and wine for the magazine. Later, he became a contributing editor at Esquire. His work included a feature on male breast cancer in the magazine.
Ted Allen has won several awards for his work, including a James Beard Foundation Award in 2012. His first cookbook, The Best Thing I Ever Ate: Recipes for Every Diet, won the 2008 James Beard Foundation Award for cookbook of the year. It was published by Clarkson Potter in spring 2012. Other notable projects include narrating the documentary, Uncorked: Wine Made Simple.
In addition to his acting and writing careers, Allen has also been a judge on several television shows, including Bravo’s Top Chef and Food Network’s Iron Chef America: the Series. This year, he will emcee GMHC’s annual ‘Savor’ fundraising event.
In addition to his roles in TV shows, Tim Allen has appeared in several films. He voiced Buzz Lightyear for the Disney animated movie. He is also a favorite actor of his fans. However, his personal life is a mystery. Fans of the ‘Last Man Standing’ star have long been curious about the comedian’s family. Many assume that Tim Allen is the son of actor Jeff Allen, but this is not true.
Though Allen’s career has taken off tremendously, he has also had a troubled past. He was arrested for drug possession in 1978. Additionally, he was part of a Midwest drug trafficking scheme. Without a plea, he would have faced life in prison.
In 2013, Allen got engaged to his longtime partner, Barry Rice. Both of them live in Brooklyn. Since then, they have been married. And they have a daughter, Elizabeth.
During their relationship, Tracy and Barry Rice registered themselves as domestic partners. For the most part, they prefer to be called “husbands” instead of “husbands and wives,” although they do wear wedding rings.
