Evan Rachel Wood has starred in several films and television shows. She is most notably a member of the all-star ensemble cast in Ryan Murphy’s Running with Scissors. Upon the film’s release, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. Moreover, she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Evan Rachel Wood grew up in Los Angeles. As a child, she played in her father’s theatrical company. At the age of nine, she appeared in her first feature film, Digging to China, starring Kevin Bacon. Later, she was cast in television shows such as American Gothic and Once and Again. In her early twenties, she appeared in music videos for Green Day, Bright Eyes, and Marilyn Manson.
After starring in television and film roles, Wood received her first leading role in the 2003 film Thirteen. The movie, which is based on a memoir by Augusten Burroughs, follows the life of a timid honors student named Tracy Freeland. It is the story of a teenager who puts herself into dangerous situations because of her mental health issues. But her mother (Holly Hunter) steps in to help her.
Despite the tumultuous events in Thirteen, Evan Rachel Wood was nominated for the Golden Globe Award and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for her work in the film. She also received a Spotlight Award from Premiere magazine for her rising talent.
Her next role came in the acclaimed TV series Westworld. During the series, she played a sapient android named Dolores Abernathy. A critic described her performance as “one of the best actresses of her generation.” She was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
Another notable role was her appearance as Gabi in Charlie Countryman, a film which features the talents of Shia LaBeouf and Rupert Grint. Her acting has garnered her three Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Critics’ Choice Television Award.
In 2010, Evan Rachel Wood appeared in an ad campaign for Gucci Guilty Eau fragrances. In addition, she co-founded EVAN+ZANE, a band with guitarist Zane Carney. Besides her acting career, Wood is also active as an activist. She has spoken out about her past, revealing that she was sexually abused by two people.
Evan Rachel Wood was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Ira David Wood III and Sara Lynn Moore. As a child, she appeared in her father’s theatrical company, Theater in the Park. While Wood was a child, she left regular school. Eventually, she received her high school diploma. However, she continued to appear in independent and made-for-television films.
Wood is openly bisexual. Her parents separated in 1997. She has a half brother. Before entering the entertainment industry, Wood and her brother were heavily involved in her father’s theater.
