A Sip With Issa Rae

In the past three years, Issa Rae has become one of the most recognizable faces in the industry. She’s starred in award-winning shows, like HBO’s Insecure and YouTube’s Giants, and penned best-selling books. She also has built a multi-faceted media company called HOORAE, with a focus on film, television and digital.

She is a woman of many hats, and has shown a keen interest in empowering Black women. She’s also a champion of local culture and community, opening her first business in South Los Angeles: Hilltop Cafe + Kitchen.

Her newest venture is her music label, Raedio, which she launched in 2020 to provide music, production and distribution services for artists of all sizes. The company is the logical extension of her commitment to supporting Black artists.

A Sip With Issa Rae (which she started in October of 2016) is a cocktail party-style event bringing together creatives to discuss their craft. A host of big names have participated including Ava Duvernay, Michael B. Jordan, Kenya Barris, Barry Jenkins and Melina Matsoukas — all of whom have provided advice and wisdom on what it takes to be successful in the industry.

The main event was hosted at Diddy’s REVOLT Summit in Inglewood, California. It was a star-studded affair, with attendees including Zendaya, Kofi Siriboe, Ava Duvernay and Michael B. Jordan, as well as a handful of other celebs who got their start in Hollywood.

While there were plenty of high points to the evening, one of the most exciting moments was when the aforementioned Ciroc branded glasses were displayed for all to see. It was the star-studded occasion of a lifetime, and a full circle moment for me.
