Babe Ruth 1927 Baseball Card
Babe Ruth and the 1927 Yankees team were on their way to an historic year in baseball, winning a record 110 games and dominating Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series. But it was Ruth’s 60 home runs which set the standard for the entire season.
On September 30th, 1927, Babe Ruth hit his first home run and forever cemented himself in sports history as one of baseball’s all-time greats. He became the first player to hit 60 home runs that season and would go on to hit over 600 more over his career – becoming part of what would become known as Murderer’s Row with Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Earle Combs and Waite Hoyt – becoming one of sports’ iconic moments.
In 1927, the New York Yankees were on fire and this set features Babe Ruth hitting a home run in the stands at Yankee Stadium during that season. It’s extremely rare and highly sought-after by serious collectors of vintage baseball cards.
This card is one of the most sought-after due to its extremely high PSA grade and excellent condition. There are only three copies in circulation, all graded by PSA at PSA 4 – making them worth an incredible $2.5 million!
One of the rarest Ruth cards from this series is E135 Collins-McCarthy, showing him pitching. This unique design can be difficult to locate in top condition.
Although this card is extremely rare and only a few copies are available for auction, it remains an impressive piece of sports memorabilia. It has been dubbed one of the most beautiful Babe Ruth cards ever produced.
In the late 1920s, American Caramel released an expansive sports trading card set featuring multiple versions of Babe Ruth and other top stars from that era. It featured black-and-white photos of Babe Ruth and other prominent players within a complex border design.
There are several versions of this card, but the most sought-after version features Babe Ruth in the dugout and taking a picture while standing on deck. Measuring 4 inches square, it boasts rounded corners and thick cardboard stock.
It is worth noting that this type of card is extremely rare and not found in any database. If you come across one, make sure it’s authentic – there are some scanners out there which could easily create counterfeit versions, so exercise caution and do your due diligence.
These strip cards are more difficult to locate than others and were released in 1916. Cut from strips by hand and unnumbered, this card depicts a child-like Babe Ruth that appeals greatly to fans and collectors.
