10 Year Old Calls 911 on Drunk Mom
If you were a ten year old in Texas last month, then you probably were very worried about what was going on in your mom’s car. At that time, you were locked inside a hot Chevrolet Silverado and your mom was asleep in the front seat. In order to find out more about what was happening, you had to call 911. And when you called, you were in luck.
The incident happened in Lakeway, Texas, where temperatures reached over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they observed a car with the windows rolled up and a woman who was sweating. They also noticed that the woman was swaying out of the car. She had matted hair and appeared to be drunk when officers spoke to her.
When officers arrived, they found that both children had been left unattended for a period of about 20 minutes. Both the teen girl and her brother were in the backseat of the vehicle and a man who described himself as a friend of the mother’s was in the passenger seat. He was wearing a Las Vegas Raiders football helmet.
After the girl’s call, police stayed on the phone with the teen for about 10 minutes. They were also able to determine the location of the vehicle, which was at the woman’s home. However, they still have questions about whether the child locks were active in the vehicle. It could have been, but they’ve yet to find out for sure.
The boy told investigators that he woke up in the parked car and asked his mother to roll down the windows. She refused. So he used her phone to dial 911. His request was recorded by the dispatch operator.
When officers arrived, the inside of the car was 123 degrees and the woman smelled of alcohol. She was arrested and charged with DUI and aggravated child endangerment. Several other charges have been filed against her and the father of her children. The woman’s lawyer said that the children aren’t in her custody, but she’s still being investigated.
As the child was waiting for the police to arrive, he realized that his mom was not awake. While he was calling for help, he thought about what he was going to do if she did not get out of the car. He told the police he needed to get out, but his mom would not let him.
Upon announcing that she was asleep in the front seat, she told the officer to “get out of my life.” This was apparently the first time the mother had been drinking, which is why she had a high blood-alcohol level. On Friday, she was convicted of child endangering. Her blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
Police have released a 9-1-1 call recording of the incident. Authorities said the woman had been passed out in the front seat. A slurred speech was heard on the tape. During the investigation, it was discovered that the woman had been drinking wine before the movie.
